Good morning, Yakima.

Firefighters battled a fire on the 200 block of Westidge Road in Selah on Sunday after witnesses observed heavy smoke at 4:30 p.m., and by 5 p.m., evacuations were ordered for residents along Humann Lane, Covey Run, and Anderson Road as crews worked to protect homes.

The annual Toppenish Rodeo will be held July 3 and 4 as part of Independence Day festivities.

The event blends local Native traditions with cowboy culture — a nod to a century-old legacy.

Firefighters responded to a brush fire north of Selah in the Humann Lane-Covey Run-Westridge Road area at around 4:30 p.m. yesterday — heavy smoke drifted into Selah as westerly winds fanned the flames and officials monitored the situation.

Yakima Valley Emergency Management and Suncomm 911 Communications have issued a Level 3 evacuation for part of Selah because of the Humann fire.

An evacuation center is open at Selah Civic Center at 216 S. First St. for those affected + to receive assistance.
