- ➤ The Yakima Domestic Violence Coalition celebrated four years today—marking its commitment to improved domestic violence responses since forming in April 2021 with a direct police-to-YWCA advocate phone line. Community leaders including police, judges and county officials discussed follow-up strategies and programs like Handle With Care that now alert schools during domestic violence calls. - ➤ Today in Toppenish, local, tribal and federal agencies announced 13 arrests in a drug trafficking bust in the Yakima Valley—seizing over 7,100 pounds of marijuana, more than 300 pounds of meth, 25 pounds of cocaine, 7 pounds of fentanyl and over 4,700 fentanyl-laced pills along with a dozen firearms as part of Operation Overdrive aimed at protecting the community. - ➤ A 52-year-old man was arrested by Yakima police and the DEA on July 9 after a traffic stop led to the discovery of over three pounds of methamphetamine, 100 grams of fentanyl, and related items in his home, and at his Thursday preliminary hearing, Judge Jeffery Swan set his bail at $10,000 due to his prior firearm conviction and court appearance issues—he remains in Yakima County jail. - ➤ Average gasoline prices in Yakima dropped by 5.5 cents per gallon after the July 4 holiday, now averaging $4.03 per gallon as of July 14 while still remaining 7.6 cents above last month and 15.1 cents higher than last year. GasBuddy's survey of 91 stations shows prices ranged from $3.33 to $4.59 per gallon + diesel prices nationally increased to $3.676 per gallon. KIMA
