- ➤ The Central Washington State Fair will be held from September 19th—28th at State Fair Park and will offer a variety of new and classic fair foods such as caramel apple funnel cake, hot honey popcorn chicken and peanut butter jelly cone chicken. ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A grass fire reported on July 15 in a rural area southwest of Mabton prompted evacuation notices for Bickleton in Klickitat County—areas north of Ferguson Road to County Line Road are under a go now order while those near Duree and Hooker Roads face get set and be ready alerts as firefighters work to contain the blaze. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Federal and local police indicted 12 people after a four‑month investigation into drug sales on the Yakama Nation reservation and took large amounts of drugs, guns, and money in Operation Overdrive—an effort that is still working to stop the crime. Yakima Herald-Republic
- ➤ On June 28, deputies responded to a domestic violence call on the 2600 block of Van Belle Road in Outlook when 41-year-old Petronilo G. Cervantes, who was armed and pointed a gun at officers, led to a situation where a rifle round and a less lethal shotgun round were fired—his body was found under a house on June 29 and investigators confirmed he was not hit by gunfire as they await the coroner’s report. - ➤ A wildfire near the 2200 block of East Viola Avenue prompted a Level 3 evacuation order on Tuesday at 6:15 p.m. covering areas on both sides of the Yakima River from Nob Hill overpass to Interstate 82—forcing closures along the Greenway south of Nob Hill Boulevard and State Route 24—while a plume of smoke was seen near the city wastewater plant. - ➤ On Tuesday, a boundary fire ignited near Bickleton in Yakima and Klickitat counties and burned an estimated 500 acres amid windy, dry conditions as air support helped crews battle the blaze. No evacuation orders were given—residents with nearby farms and homes are urged to remain cautious. KIMA
