BUSINESS NEWS

  • Three local wineries from the red mountain area have been nominated for USA Today’s 10 Best in the Nation award. Kiona Vineyards and Winery is competing for Best Wine Tasting Room while Frichette Winery is running for Best Wine Club + Terra Blanca Winery and Estate Vineyard is contending for Best Winery Restaurant, with votes open until July 21.  NonStopLocal

CRIME NEWS

  • On July 3, police reported that a Yakima resident driving a 2014 Hyundai Sonata struck a pedestrian at the intersection of W. Nob Hill Blvd and S. 23rd Ave and the injured man later died from severe head injuries—on July 17, Mauricio Arechiga was charged with vehicular homicide.  NonStopLocal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Yakima City Council will meet Tuesday, July 22 at City Hall to review staff proposals for $3 million in budget cuts and postpone a $6 million property tax levy to cover a $9 million shortfall for 2026 — officials plan to consider the proposals carefully. Deputy Mayor Matt Brown said that if the levy does not pass on the November ballot, the council may have to implement further cuts up to $15 million — a move that could affect city services.  1280 NewsTalk KIT

HEALTH NEWS

  • Narcan, a safe nasal spray to reverse opioid overdoses, is available for free at several Yakima Valley sites — including 24-hour vending machines and local health clinics. Local groups offer training on its use, and officials reported that 14 overdoses occurred in the last 24 hours.  Yakima Herald-Republic
  • Dr. Emily Kobayashi launched Yakima General Surgery in May to give local residents faster access to surgical care and shorten long wait times for procedures. The practice, located at Astria Toppenish Hospital, now offers colonoscopies + endoscopies without referrals and plans to expand services soon.  KIMA
