- ➤ Yakima Police responded early Thursday morning at about 1:27 a.m. to a shooting on the 200 block of South 72nd Avenue where they found a 21-year-old Yakima resident who died from a gunshot wound + detectives from the Major Crimes Unit are investigating the incident. NonStopLocal
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Toppenish School District is hiring two interim principals for Toppenish High School and Garfield Elementary School to lead the schools for one academic year while they search for permanent leaders. The district said job applications close Monday and will use community feedback to guide its next steps — a plan to help meet school needs. Apple Valley News Now
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Yakima County is now using a national mapping program called ODMAP to track drug overdoses in near real-time and alert first responders to send supplies like Narcan—this tool shows spikes when five overdoses happen in 24 hours and helps local agencies better guide harm reduction efforts. Since its launch in March, the program has improved data on both fatal and nonfatal overdoses, allowing for a more targeted response to the drug crisis. Yakima Herald-Republic
