- ➤ At the fairgrounds today, hundreds of classic cars were displayed at the Vintiques car show (51st annual), drawing in car owners and visitors who admired the vehicles' long histories. Organizer Ric Knight said the event celebrated both the care put into restoring these cars and the shared stories behind each one. KIMA
- ➤ Á La Mode Spa in Yakima recently hosted its first-ever Little Makers Market, where over 20 children sold homemade items such as baked goods and crocheted animals—organizers hope the event will grow into a recurring chance for young entrepreneurs to learn business skills. NonStopLocal
- ➤ Wags to Riches Animal Rescue and Sanctuary held its annual barbecue fundraiser at the Sozo Sports Complex on August 2, featuring live auctions, silent auctions, and a 50-50 raffle to support its programs. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Last week, Yakima City Council voted 4-3 to put a tax levy on the Nov. 5 ballot that would add 50 cents per $1,000 of assessed value to raise $6 million annually and help cover a $9 million general fund deficit. The council also approved $3 million in budget cuts and warned that if voters do not pass the levy, additional reductions to public safety and other services will occur in 2026—committees for voter guide statements will be appointed Monday. - ➤ The Yakima City Council approved about $3 million in budget cuts at a special meeting on July 24 by reducing funding for youth and senior programs, street maintenance, Tahoma cemetery watering, and other city services. The cuts impact City Hall, Economic Development, Parks and Recreation, Public Safety, and Public Works + will result in staffing and service changes for next year. Yakima Herald-Republic
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Olympic champions Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone and Masai Russell won US trials on Saturday in Oregon and secured their spots at the Athletics World Championships in Tokyo—McLaughlin-Levrone won the 400m flat while Russell led the 100m hurdles. Olympic champion Cole Hocker finished third in the 1,500m in a tight race and other qualifiers like Rai Benjamin and Jacory Patterson advanced in their events. FOX 41
