  • A 55-year-old man from Sunnyside was found dead in an orchard north of Maple Grove on August 5—he used his ATV to search for a suspicious person when he was violently killed and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.  FOX 41
  • On Monday around 6:30 a.m. a 25-year-old Yakima woman fought off a 24-year-old man who entered her bedroom by striking him with a baseball bat, and police later arrested him after he fled the scene.  1280 NewsTalk KIT
  • In October 1995, 21-year-old Patricia Allen was found stabbed in her Yakima apartment at Glenmoor Green Apartment Homes after her boyfriend discovered her body just after 2 a.m.—police and her family still seek clues to resolve the unsolved murder.  1280 NewsTalk KIT
  • On Saturday, August 2, a rioter threw a rock through the window and set a small fire at the Yakima ICE office—no injuries were reported and officials said the investigation continues.  NonStopLocal

CULTURE NEWS

  • On Monday, August 11 at 7 p.m., the Yakima Capitol Theatre will host 'The Night The Curtain Fell' to honor 50 years since a 1975 fire nearly closed the venue. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Yakima Police ended the crime-free rental housing program after 17 years because a $3 million budget cut and staffing shortages pushed the City Council to reassign resources for next year's budget gap. The program had helped landlords with tenant screening and incident alerts and was canceled immediately to change how public safety resources are used.  Yakima Herald-Republic
