CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A 33-year-old woman died and another person was hurt but not badly in a shooting on the 1200 block of West Washington Avenue at 2:39 p.m. Saturday — Yakima police said the investigation is ongoing and asked anyone with information to come forward. Yakima Herald-Republic
- ➤ Yakima police shot and killed a 36-year-old suspect linked to an earlier homicide when his vehicle was stopped on West Washington Avenue at about 7:39 p.m.—the incident led to shutting down Cruise the Ave while the driver was taken into custody with non-life-threatening injuries and investigators continue looking into a Saturday afternoon shooting that left a 33-year-old woman dead. CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Yakima Arts Commission is accepting art applications for the fall and winter Windows Alive! display in downtown Yakima with submissions due by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, August 29th. Selected local and regional artists will have their work shown by October 3rd and receive a $250 stipend—essential details are in the project guidelines. KIMA
- ➤ Visitors gathered today at McAllister air field to see unique airplanes and a vintage red Ford during the museum exhibit, explained Executive Director Lynn Harden. The display features a home built power glider that glides four miles—one of few rare designs—and a collection of experimental aircraft including a rare cutaway of the 4360 engine—one of only four in existence. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Officials from the Bureau of Reclamation report that Tieton Dam, built in 1925, is in good shape after a century of providing water for irrigation, recreation and hydropower generation. The dam is regularly tested and maintained and future work to improve fish passage is planned for several years from now. Yakima Herald-Republic
