Good morning, Yakima. Here's your local news at a glance for Monday, the 25th of August.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • At Franklin Pool, dogs and their owners enjoyed the Paws in the Pool event on the pool's last summer day as donations supported the Yakima Humane Society. The pool will close permanently in 2026 because the city council approved a plan to use $3 million to cut a projected $9 million shortfall — a change that ends a long-loved summer tradition.  KIMA

BUSINESS NEWS

  • IHOP will return to the Yakima Valley—set for a new truck plaza at 100 Higgins Way in Grandview and expected to offer its menu to locals and travelers. The potential dual-concept plan may later include an Applebee’s feature for evening dining.  1280 NewsTalk KIT

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A shift in weather is coming this week that will bring dry, hot temperatures and easterly winds across Yakima and other parts of Washington—conditions that may increase wildfire risks.
