CRIME NEWS

  • Yakima police said a 27-year-old man, Jaime Garcia-Garnica, was fatally shot Monday morning in the 1800 block of Cornell Avenue, marking the city’s ninth homicide and county’s 17th as detectives review evidence and surveillance video—an interfaith group will hold a prayer service Friday to honor him.  Yakima Herald-Republic

CULTURE NEWS

  • More than 150 people marched in downtown Yakima on Monday, Sept. 1 as part of the Revive in 25 tour led by Christian activist Sean Feucht—participants waved flags, sang songs, and were escorted by police along Yakima Avenue. A later concert at State Fair Park drew hundreds who gathered to honor their faith.  Yakima Herald-Republic

  • On September 2nd, the Native Strong Lifeline added a text and chat feature to offer immediate suicide prevention support to Native and Indigenous people—making it the only hotline run entirely by Native crisis counselors.  NonStopLocal
