ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Firefighters from around Yakima Valley battled a wildfire that burned 15 acres near Toppenish on Saturday at the 1100 block of Wierman Road, using a bulldozer to carve a firebreak and calling a second alarm later in the day — crews and one helicopter responded, but by 4 p.m. the fire was not contained.  Yakima Herald-Republic

  • Wendy's opened its first store in Union Gap in over a decade on Saturday — the new location at 2228 Goodman Road near Yakima Air Terminal is expected to bring more visitors and boost local business.  KIMA

CULTURE NEWS

  • Actress Jackie Cruz will speak at Hispanic Heritage Month events this week in Toppenish, Yakima and Ellensburg. She will share her story at Heritage University on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.—she will also address the Yakima Downtown Rotary Club and speak at CWU on Thursday with a Q&A session following her talk.  Yakima Herald-Republic

  • Yakima County Development Association will hold its annual meeting and Economic Development Talk on Oct. 23 at the Kaminski Conference Center on the Yakima Valley College campus from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. The event features a fireside chat with local business and industry leaders discussing new health care, manufacturing and rural community projects—focusing on job creation in the Yakima Valley.  Yakima Herald-Republic

  • Yakima Air Terminal director Rob Hodgman resigned effective Oct.31 while regular operations continue & City Manager Vicki Baker said a search for his replacement will soon begin to guide planned upgrades and new commercial flight options.  Yakima Herald-Republic
