Here's your local news at a glance for Sunday, the 18th of October.
Good morning, Yakima.
🏘️ Community
Pattie Graffe (executive director of Yakima Valley Trolleys) is working to preserve local history while leading volunteers on a restoration effort (aiming to raise $5 million) for a Selah to Yakima route; the trolleys remain open with holiday-themed rides for families.
Lisa Krous was named general manager at the Yakima Convention and Event Center in September after 25 years of service.
She brings extensive event planning experience and a focus on kindness from her long career at the center (located at the corner of North Eighth Street and Yakima Avenue).
💼 Business
Native Bloom Trading opened in August at 1004 Vintage Valley Parkway in Zillah, founded by Alison Aranda+ Letisha Peterson who aim to meet local demand for craft supplies including beads, fabric, and native regalia.
They plan to expand online to serve the growing community orders.
Ramona White became director of Visiting Angels’ Yakima office seven years ago and now serves about 80-100 clients, including many veterans, from the Larson Building downtown.
She planned to retire in Las Vegas but stayed to build a strong local home care service (her flexible caregiver schedule highlights this success).
