Good morning, Yakima. Here's your local news at a glance for Sunday, the 9th of November.
COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ The 9th annual Sip and Stroll in downtown Yakima attracted local residents who walked while sampling local wines and brews — an event that united neighbors — and explored local shops and hotels. Attendees entered a raffle to win a 43-inch flat-screen TV — a draw available at 12 of the 17 locations — as they enjoyed meeting new people. KIMA
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ A study from University of California-Davis found that adding banana to a smoothie reduced absorption of beneficial flavanols by 84%—an enzyme in bananas interfered with nutrients linked to brain and heart health. Researchers advised using fruits with lower enzyme activity, like berries, to get more of these compounds. FOX 41
- ➤ A study published in the New England Journal of Medicine showed that one dose of a gene editing drug lowered LDL cholesterol and triglycerides by about half in 15 participants tested yesterday. Researchers reported minimal side effects and plan additional clinical trials — even though one participant died six months later, a death they do not believe was related to the treatment — to further assess the drug's safety.
